The International 9 is cementing its place as the largest Esports event in history, with a still-climbing $33 million total ready for payout. The winning team will receive upwards of $15 million, an eye-watering amount that equates to $3million per player.
Dota 2’s Battle Pass is contributing massively to this huge amount, with 25% of proceeds from purchases of the pass going directly into the prize fund.

The main event will take place between August 20th and 25th, hosted at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai. Currently, the Group Stage is ongoing, and you can watch it over on Dota’s official Twitch channel.
Competitors are likely delighted to hear that $33 million isn’t even the last of it, as new TI9 Battle Pass items are still being released. Compared to last year’s total of $24.6 million, The International 9 can claim to have made history, which bodes well for the future of Dota 2 as an esport.
